The Europe-Ukraine Forum,
a chain of cultural solidarity visible to all

The right of a people to self-determination, the right of a nation to affirm its existence, the right of a culture to express itself and flourish are inalienable principles that define democracy and its history. , principles that Vladimir Putin's regime is trampling on in Ukraine, but also in Russia itself, the better to deny them in the face of the world.

This is why the cultural world (from universities to theatres, from publishing houses to cinema and the visual arts) must demonstrate its full solidarity with the Ukrainian people and assure them of unceasing support in theirfight.

Such amobilization should not only aim to restore peace and security in Europe.

“How can we help Ukraine and Europe win the culture war Russia is waging against them? »

Throughout Europe, the world of culture affirms its solidarity with the Ukrainian people! On February 24, 2023, the foundations were laid for a “new humanist movement bringing together intellectuals and activists from different countries”.

The war that Putin's Russia is waging against Ukraine is a war against its culture and against culture in general.

The Kremlin declares decadent the values of democracy, freedom and critical thinking that shape European culture. De facto, Ukraine finds itself compelled to defend them, on behalf of all of us, against Russia.

European cultural actors are mobilizing on February 24, the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army.

With what they know how to do - their words, their ideas and their imaginations, they will speak out to show that they stand alongside the Ukrainian people in their daily trials, to help them win the war and prepare for their future.

What can cultural actors do against war – in wartime or in opposition to war?

Opened by Katyryna Kalytko, a great figure in contemporary Ukrainian poetry, 4 online round tables  " Should Pushkin be burned? “, “The era of the camps”, “Are fascism and genocide dirty words? »,  "War on War"brought together on December 2, 2022 sixteen academics from Ukraine, Georgia, Italy and France, all closed with a conference by the essayist Camille de Toledo.

The war in Ukraine, in addition to its serious human and political dimensions, came to restate the question of culture on two major points.

The aggression against Ukraine, on the one hand, is explicitly displayed as an aggression against its identity, embodied in its language and culture.

On the other hand, Ukrainian public opinion has reacted to this aggression by rejecting Russian culture, particularly at the linguistic level and in the artistic field.
