ARGUMENT: NO to Putin's army of athletes at the Paris Olympics
The investigation we conducted, which was picked up by Le Monde and other media outlets, demonstrates that more than 80% of Russian medalists from the Tokyo Games support their country's war of aggression against Ukraine.
Ukrainian athletes, meanwhile, see their sports facilities go up in smoke, their training severely disrupted, their lives threatened almost daily by bombings or mines, with many top athletes dying on the front lines.
From Stalin to Putin, from medal-winning athletes to mafiosi, the argument opposite demonstrates the major role of sport in the building and propaganda of the Putin regime, and explains why the participation of Russian athletes (with very rare exceptions) in the 2024 Olympics would trample on Olympic values, disadvantage Ukrainian athletes and reinforce the politicization of sport.We present in particular a table of Russian medalists from the Tokyo 2021 Games who support the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
